Pre-production
For the pre-production of the preliminary task we had to create a story board. We did this so that we had a guideline when we were filming the music video. The story board was constructed by following the original video of Blurred lines. We watched this video and then converted the shots onto out story board; we did this so that we could make our video like the original one. We watched the music video and paused it every time the shot changed; we then drew the shot down on the story board and recorded the length of the shot as well. Once we had done all of the story board we then had to decide who was going to feature in the music video. We decided this by asking people if they wanted to be in the video, the decision making didn’t take too long as we had people in our group that wanted to feature in the video. We then briefly thought about the props, to decide which props we were going to use we looked at the original music video and tried to collect together some props that would aid us in recreating the video. We went around trying to find things that would help us create a better video such as a blazer so that the people featuring in the video would match the kind of clothes worn by the people in the original Blurred lines music video. Although our pre-production wasn’t all that good, if we were to do it again I think we would need to story board the music video better, this was because we missed out a couple of little clips that were used in the original music video, it meant that some of clips were a bit out of place as we needed to try and fill in the gaps with some other little clips that we had filmed.
Production
The production of our preliminary task consisted of us filming the video for the blurred lines video. I think that this went quite well as we managed to film the 30 seconds or so in about 2 lessons. This was good as it meant that we didn’t waste any time in filming it as we did it quite quick. It also meant that we didn’t have to keep setting up the equipment as we did it all in one go. I also think that the filming of it was relatively good; I think this as we created a good piece of work considering it only took us about 2 hours. We made sure that we had a couple of takes for each clip that we put into the video so that it was to a relatively good standard, this also helped with the editing as it meant that we had a couple of clips to choose from for each shot of the music video. Even though the production of our video was good I still think that there are places to improve, for example if we were going to do it again I think that we could take the filming more seriously and try harder throughout the task, I think that during the production we were taking it too seriously as we knew that it wasn’t the real thing, this meant that some of what we did wasn’t to as good standard of what we could have probably done if were treating the task as the original one. Apart from that on the whole I think that the production of the task went quite well.
Post-production
The post-production of our task also went relatively well, we put all of the good clips onto the video and we put the song in the background. We had a bit of trouble as the quality of the video wasn’t the best as the background and lighting that we used wasn’t to a high standard, for our real video we will think about these things more and we will have less restrictions as we won’t have to do it in school. To make the video look a better quality we made it black and white, this made the video have a different feel to it, but it made the quality of the video look better, making the whole thing more presentable. We managed to make the clips go in time with the music quite quickly which means that we didn’t have to mess around with cutting clips to make them fit in time with the music. We found that the hardest part was putting text over the video, this was something that none of us had done before so it took us a while to find out how to get it on. We used YouTube to aid us putting the text on top of the video, but even then we struggled to find the tool that we needed, after a while searching we found out where this was and it only took us a couple of minutes to find the right font style, size and colour to put onto the video.
